- Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin has announced six passengers for the next flight on its New Shepard rocket.
- They include Good Morning America anchor Michael Strahan and Laura Shepard Churchley.
- Shepard Churchley is the daughter of Alan Shepard, who Blue Origin named its rocket after.
Jeff Bezos' rocket company, Blue Origin, announced on Tuesday that it planned to send six passengers to the edge of space on December 9.
ABC's Good Morning America (GMA) coanchor Michael Strahan and Laura Shepard Churchley, the eldest daughter of US astronaut Alan Shepard, are among the crew, Blue Origin said. The company's New Shepard rocket is named after Shepard, the first American to fly to space and the fifth person to walk on the moon.
"An original Shepard will fly on the New Shepard," Shepard Churchley said in Blue Origin's Twitter video on Tuesday.
Strahan said in a GMA clip posted on Twitter that he said yes "without hesitation" after Blue Origin approached him.
Strahan, a two-time Emmy award winner, said in the video that he began preparing for the flight two weeks ago.
The other four passengers are paying customers, Blue Origin said.
They include space-industry executive and philanthropist Dylan Taylor, investor Evan Dick, Bess Ventures founder Lane Bess, and content creator Cameron Bess.
Lane and Cameron Bess will be the first parent-child duo to fly in space, Blue Origin said.
Insider has contacted Blue Origin about ticket prices. A seat on New Shepard for the company's first human flight in brought in $28 million in an auction in June.
This is Blue Origin's third human flight. The six passengers are set to fly about 62 miles into the sky.
The six space tourists will experience a few minutes of weightlessness before floating back to Earth in a pressurized capsule that detaches from the rocket.
Previous New Shepard flights have lasted about 11 minutes.
Blue Origin is targeting a 9:00 a.m. Central Time liftoff on December 9 from its launch site in the Texas desert.
Blue Origin's previous flight crew comprised Star Trek actor William Shatner and three other passengers. The crew from the company's very first human spaceflight comprised Bezos, his brother, 82-year-old aviator Wally Funk, and Dutch teen Oliver Daemen.
